If an item is marked as wrong (when it was previously marked as learned), it’ll make the items learned negative one from the current total learned items value. For instance if you have 1000 items learned total, and then do a review session of just one item and mark it as wrong (when it was previously counted as learned), then leave that review session, there would be 999 total learned items, or -1 items learned for the day. I’m not sure if this is the cause in your specific case, but if there are 8 less items counted as learned compared to the previous month on your account, it would indicate -8 items learned for the month.
