I have noticed that certain characters recur for transliterating foreign words (尼,斯,etc.). Does anyone know of a deck for the most commonly used phonetic approximations in foreign words when transliterated in Chinese media?
If there isn’t such a deck, it would be relatively easy to create one. A possible source would be a table like this:
This is from 新华, so this would be mainland China usage. As I think most users are aware, there are regional differences in how names are transcribed, which can be rather confusing!
