I’ve been using Skritter for years now, I started with Japanese and it helped me a lot. Thank you for this awesome app!
A little while ago I started learning Chinese too
And with the experience I have from Japanese and your App’s support, my Chinese has been progressing rapidly. So to challenge myself, I decided to do “raw squigs” for simplified characters.
However, on Android, these settings sync also impact my Skritter Japanese app.
So everyday when doing my reps (yes, both every day) I’ll change this setting twice.
I contemplated also doing Japanese w/ raw squigs and then tried, but at the moment this is defnitely too much for me and leads to my Japanese reps ballooning very fast.
Is there a chance you could make this setting independent for each App so I have it a little bit easier?
Thank you for considering this!
Apps: Skritter for Japanese (Android; 3.11.8 (30005993)); Skritter for Chinese (Android; 3.11.8 (30005993)) - Simplified characters mode
User Story: As a User I want to optimize my learning experience per language App. That’s why I’d like to have different settings so I can raw squig my way through Chinese Hanzi while still maintaining my Japanese Kanji Knowledge.
We are so happy to hear that Skritter has helped you with Japanese. I have just tested this out on iOS and have not experienced this issue. I will bring this issue up to our developers and send you an update once I have more information.
Thanks for looking into this.
Since posting, I’ve got a new iPhone and am in the process of switching over.
However, it seems I can replicate the issue on iOS too (iPhone 16 Pro w/ iOS 18.3.1; newest Skritter versions because of fresh install).
So for the time being I’m using one device für Japanese and the other for Chinese.
Any information if your devs did have a look at the issue?
I think this setting might actually be sychronized through the Skritter account.
My reason for believing this: After changing the settings on one of my device, the other device would follow this, so my approach of using one device for raw squigs and one for without doesn’t work.
So the problem is worse for me but I fear also more effort to change. However, the initial request remains the same: I’d hope for the writing canvas settings to be distinct for the Japanese and the Chinese app.
Apologies, I think I must have accidentally tested it out on Rawest squigs. The developers mentioned that Raw squigs saves and is not language-specific, while Rawest squigs does not. The development team plans on making improvements to this in the future. We are going to make it more language-specific with all of our settings.
At the moment, the best option will be for you to go into the quick settings and change it. While reviewing Due Cards, you can tap the center icon in the top right-hand corner of the app to adjust your settings.
