New character's study mode in iOS app?

Hello, I just started using Skritter since a couple of days and so far I’m finding it more convenient to use the web version rather than the iOS app. In the web version, probably because there is more space it seems there are more details about words…definitions, mnemonics, example sentences…I checked the settings and I enabled the option that helps me to write new characters for the first time and it’s useful, but it seems that if I try to learn a new character on the iOS app instead it doesn’t show me how to write it the first time but it expects me to write it immediately by myself. I don’t know if it’s just me, if I saw wrong or there’s something not right in the settings but I don’t think that’s the case. This “problem” made me put the iphone app aside and I’m using the web version for now, but it would be useful to learn and review characters on the go using the mobile app. Can you tell me how to solve the problem? I admit I didn’t use the iphone app much, so maybe it could be I just don’t know well how to do, but it should be automatic I suppose.

The original iOS app doesn’t have a learning mode (like on the web version at:, so the behavior you’re describing is just the way it works. You can double tap to reveal the character or single tap for a single stroke hint, however there unfortunately isn’t a stroke by stroke teaching mode.

You can use the beta version of the iOS app though, which does have this! Here’s a link with more info:

Thank you Jeremy. I think that function is a game changer, otherwise skritter works better for reviewing and memorizing words…it needs a learning mode. I hope to see it in the iOS app official release in the near future.

Really? I haven’t found this teaching mode in the current Chinese skritter beta. Can you tell me how to activate it?

btw: are you talking about the exact same teaching mode as on the website?

It’s the same teaching mode as on the website, yep! Here’s a link to a guide:

Yeah found it. Thanks. I really didn’t know it was already implemented.

Fabio, I don’t know if I misunderstood you when you said that you wanted a way to learn new characters on the go with the app, but to me it sounds like you are using the web version on another device than your phone. So I just wanted to point out that you can always use the web version on your phone.

I usually use the web version on my computer and I tried the iOS app on my phone. Anyway yes, I also could use the web version on my phone, I didn’t think about that initially.
