3.6.X Beta Release Megathread

A video recording of the bug is what I was looking for so I could try and reproduce the steps causing the bug. It doesn’t appear to be item related, it appears to based on if the audio is cached already or not, which is why didn’t catch it earlier during testing.

I’m seeing it as well now and have steps to reproduce.

Thanks for the reports!

@Therebackagain can you report this via the corrections inbox so we can investigate it? Sounds like an item-level issue and we’ll be happy to dig in during the work week! Glad you have a temporary workaround for this pesky item for now.

If you mean the beta screen shot capture and submit, I have already done that. Otherwise not sure what “corrections inbox” submission means.

Thanks for looking into this!

@Therebackagain open the info screen for the vocabulary, scroll to the bottom and “Submit Correction” for the item and describe the issue so the team can check it out.

I don’t suspect that this is a bug in the app, but rather an issue with the item.

Thanks,
Jake

Yes ok, thanks, I know that one, have done so already.

Appreciate it!

This happens to me as well, on all new words that I learn, and I think it’s getting worse. At first, it used to play the audio just twice, but now it’s playing the audio three or four times for some new words (still twice for some older words).

Hey All,

Having some real trouble loading reviews or continuous after loading a new deck: it’s been twenty minutes and I still can’t get anything to move. Time attack is accessible, however. Same thing happened to me yesterday after loading HSK 1 (2021) and I had to come back to Skritter after a few hours for anything to load.

Rejuvenating a deck triggers the words learned metrics, though it probably shouldn’t?

Seeing similar issues as described above with the double/triple sounding of words or characters. Slow pace and single tap still yields the issue.

Also wanted to voice support to the issue raised by @Apomixis that you’ve already addressed: gets really annoying to manually run through dozens of sections you’re missing one or two words from.

Edit1:
Device: iPhone X, iOS 14.7.1
Skritter: 3.6.2 (300539)

Edit2:
Sync complete thirty minutes after this post, so anywhere between 45 to 60 minutes from initial loading of the HSK 2 (2021) deck.

Could you expand on what you mean when you say “loading a new deck?”

Are you learning a lot of items, spamming the mark as learned, doing rejuvenation, etc.?

Reviews (due and continuous) can’t load until after the sync is done. So, if you just bulk added a bunch of new items to your study queue it could take a while depending on how many items are added. It shouldn’t take 45 to 60 minutes… but I’d love to learn a bit more about what you did so we can try and put the apps through similar testing and see if we can find where things are failing, or other ways to improve this process moving forward to be more efficient.

Alright iOS users. Thanks for the reports on the audio issue. We’re doing some internal alpha testing on the fix right now and I’ll post hear once we start rolling things out.

These are the actions I took for each deck:

HSK 1 (2021)

  • rejuvenate
  • mark some 30 items as learned

HSK 2 (2021)

  • rejuvenate
  • marked an item or two as learned

Similar outcomes so I’m guessing it’s the rejuvenation

Thanks for the extra details. Certainly gives us something to do some more testing on to try and improve!

Question, was this on Wi-Fi or on a cell network at the time?

All on Wi-Fi

Quick update.

Working on some final bits of code that’ll allow us to delete cached images and audio (a great system to have in place!) when upgrading to a new build. This process will require internet connect, but will be much faster than a full system sync or having to delete and reinstall the apps to clear these kinds of things in the future.

It’s a small bit of code but touches a lot of areas of the app so we’re taking our time to get it right.

Beta is out! We found a bug with some simmering boxes deck art not loading but needed to get this audio update out. We’ll be sure to patch that stuff up in the next beta and production builds along with a few other fixes and improvements we’ve made as well.

Happy Friday and have a great weekend, everyone!

I may actually know what this is, perhaps it’s just the term you’re using that is unfamiliar, but what do you mean by “Learning Notes?” Is this the definition/mnemonic boxes or something else?

Whoops, should be “Learning tips” I’ve updated the release notes. We called them “Notes” for a while, but did a rebrand in these builds.

We have about 400 of these in the apps for HSK vocabulary and other things and will keep adding more in batches. They’ll be coming to the Preview cards in the future, too!
